STRAPPING YOUNG LAD Drummer Celebrates One Year Of Sobriety
November 20, 2005STRAPPING YOUNG LAD drummer Gene Hoglan has posted the following message on tehe band's official web site:
"Houston, you have a problem. STRAPPING's stinky tourbus is parked at the Meridian. I suggest 'flame.' Damn, and I bought some sorta de-funking agent yesterday, too.
"On a personal note, yesterday was my one-year anniversary since I last touched booze. I quit for a number of reasons, but mainly 'cause it stopped being fun. I'm also on a mission to be as destructive as possible live, and tea-totaling sure helps. I also would never wanna let the rest of my bandmates down (like I'm sure I have a time or two),and, not that I'm 40 yet, but who wants to see a 40 year-old drunk guy? Lame. Those are just some of the simpler reasons why I no longer drink.
"Quitting was so simple. I enjoy meeting people after the show, and hangin' oot with folks, and now that I no longer booze it up, I can discourse rather cogently. I enjoy that immensely. I'm no judge, either, so I really don't give a fuck if you're hammered. Although, that same drunken story told to me over and over again gets a little stale, but what can ya do?
"A couple nights ago we played at House of Blues Orlando. Which is, of course, located at Disneyworld. Or 'Mouse-shwitz,' as Dev so eloquently put it onstage. We ripped it up and had a blast. Dev said a whole whack of hilarious stuff as usual, and we got to tear some heads off. We wanted to get some Mickey ears for Dev, cut the forehead out, and just let The Skullet fly! That woulda been deadly! Willy the Keyboard Guy got a pretty stylin' tattoo from Tim Schubert right after the show. It looks real good for 4 1/2 hrs of work. I'd get a tattoo, but my Mom won't let me. Haha! You think I'm kiddin', don'tcha?
"Yesterday's day off was spent in a bus-garage in Tallahassee, Fla. Thrilling. The other two buses got to go have a wild wing-ding in the French Quarter, we got a WalMart in buttfuck Egypt. That's more our speed anyway. If anybody in the French Quarter finds a cell phone where everything on it is in Swedish, that would be Christofer's from DARKANE. Give it back! What am I, the lost and found?
"Been watching FEAR FACTORY a lot on this tour. Say what you will about them, but they are laying it down heavy every night. Pulling out the majority of their heaviest numbers, too. Very cool, indeed.
"Uh-oh. 'Burnout: Revenge' just got fired up by the boys. Might have to jump in for a few rounds. See you guys later!"
